Máhcapae: the Story of the Bora, Huitoto, and Rosewood

The first episode of the Rosewood Series.

One century ago, In the 1930's, the Bora, Huitoto, Ticuna, Ocaina, and Andoque peoples were coerced into being relocated by the Patrones (rubber barons) from their homes in the Putamayo river region of Colombia. They were eventually settled in Loreto, Peru.

The Bora and Huitoto, who traditionally competeted over land and resources, banded together to survive on the Peruvian Ampiyacu river. The 5 communities involved in this project are: Boras de Pucarquillo, Huitotos de Pucaurquillo, Huitotos de Estirón, Boras de Brillo Nuevo and Boras de Colonia

This is the story of the Bora and Huitotos, and of the Máhcapahé (Rosewood) tree that they brought with them.

Shot by Dylan Francis of Troubled Genius Media in collaboration with Camino Verde, with the assistance of Carlos Garcia and Alejandro Zevallos. Made possible with the permission and guidance by the Bora and Huitoto communities
